Equipment Support Structures

Communication with all stakeholders is key to understanding the client’s needs when designing and detailing equipment support structures. Equipment attachment points, clear zones, operation tolerances, and interferences are fundamental to good design. Clark has experience working with clients, equipment manufacturers, fabricators, and detailers to provide effective designs with an eye on constructability. If the client requests scope split between equipment support structure and equipment foundations, Clark provides foundation load tables and foundation arrangement drawings.

Overhead Material Handling Systems

Material handling systems are different in terms of safety and risk. From a structural engineering perspective, they also have unique design and analysis characteristics that require familiarity and experience. Clark is experienced with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards and has the experienced personnel to design new systems and analyze existing systems.

Pipe Racks and Pipe Bridges

Design of pipe racks and bridges requires knowledge of pipe stress analysis, thermal and pressure considerations, and pipe support types. Economical design of racking requires an understanding of many facets of a project, including pipe rack and pipe bridge foundation types. Clark has experience in designing and detailing in this three-dimensional spatial environment where fit-up and interface with other disciplines are critical.

Equipment Foundations

Communication with all stakeholders is key to understanding the client’s needs when designing and detailing equipment foundations. Understanding equipment loads (dynamic and static) and equipment operating tolerance is fundamental in good design. Clark has experience working with clients, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and facility personnel to provide effective designs with an eye on constructability. The soil structure interface is another important aspect of any foundation design. Clark has decades of experience working with geotechnical engineers in obtaining soil data important to equipment foundation design.

Tank Farms

Tanks can have significant loads, containment areas need to be detailed correctly, and environmental considerations such as climate and chemical makeup of material being stored all need to be considered. Large or small, interior or exterior, Clark has experience in designing and detailing tank farms for a variety of clients in a variety of industries.
