Midway YMCA

The new 50,00 square foot Midway YMCA was built to replace the existing 1950s facility. A new facility was needed to meet current YMCA standards and current fitness trends.

The city required “green space” in front of the building due to the recent placement of the Green Line Light Rail Transit system on University Avenue. Due to existing site constraints, the YMCA was temporarily relocated so the existing building could be demolished in order to build the new facility.

A portion of the building was designed for a future third floor. This required the structural systems to be sized for this future load, as well as make those modifications relatively simple and economical in the future.

Clark Engineering worked closely with LSE Architects and McGough Construction to establish structural systems for the YMCA. The project was completed on time and on budget.
