On August 23, 2018, the South Dakota Transportation Commission awarded 35 Preliminary Engineering (PE) Bridge Improvement Grants (BIG) totaling approximately $1.345 million.
The remaining $13.655 million in BIG funds will be used for Preservation, and Rehabilitation and Replacement grants to be approved in April 2019.
Clark Engineering provided engineering assistance to our clients for preparation and submittal of 12 applications for PE grant funding.
Congratulations to these Clark Engineering clients who were awarded with these PE grants:
City of Aberdeen, Beadle County – 3 PE grants
Bon Homme County, Brown County, Day County – 2 PE grants
Hamlin County, Lincoln County, and Roberts County — 2 PE grants.
We look forward to working with these clients to complete the Preliminary Engineering process on their bridges and preparing them for future applications for additional BIG funding.
The State of South Dakota created the BIG program in 2015 with Senate Bill 1. SB 1 set aside $7 million per year from funds generated by license plate fees to be used to repair and replace aging local bridges. The SDDOT adds an additional $8 million annually, making $15 million available.
Contact your local Clark Engineering office to assist you with the next round of applications for the Preservation, and Rehabilitation and Replacement categories, due Jan 2, 2019.
