Bridge Hydraulics

Carrying water through properly sized and well-designed structures is key to protecting highways, waterways, and adjacent properties. Clark’s team designs box culverts, bridges, pipe culverts, and low water crossings to meet these goals for our clients.

We perform field surveys of creeks, roads, and adjacent property and create GIS mapping of watersheds that incorporates LiDAR aerial survey data. Our hydrology and hydraulic modeling expertise enables us to understand how much flow we need to address and how the existing and proposed structures handle that flow. We also predict erosion and scour and design countermeasures to address them, maximizing the lifespan of the structure.

Clark’s team also evaluates wetland and other impacts affecting the choice of structure and designs new structure in accordance with FEMA and local floodplain requirements. Our team has extensive experience working with projects using South Dakota Department of Transportation funds. Our environmental staff streamlines permits and approvals, and our Certified Floodplain managers help ensure compliance with floodplain requirements.
